Today I accidentally found out my Neighbor’s Son plays Magic.
A while back, I cracked a few packs of Avacyn Restored and left them in the car. Well, dad left the car door open and a few of them escaped into the wild when the wind picked up and ended up all over the yard and the neighbor’s yard.
Thankfully we caught the rares pretty quick (Most of them, there’s still a rogue Reforge the Soul out there somewhere. I should make posters- “LOST- One red miracle. Don’t worry, it isn’t one of the good ones”). The only rare of note was one Restoration Angel that was saved quickly. The Uncommons and Commons got loose and ended up everywhere. Dad scooped most of them up and accused me of setting them loose, of course, but that’s another story. They were lurking about outside for a while, I’d guess overnight from the water damage on some of them (just curling from the dew).
My Neighbor is the cutest little Asian lady, and she saw the cards while walking down to her mailbox. Today we got home as she was at her mailbox, and she came over with a handful of lands (one of each, she knew her stuff, but they were OLD, like pre-mirrodin old border old) and asked us if we knew about the ones that got loose. We told her they’d blown out of the car, and she said she that was a “Wonderful answer”, as she had thought someone had gotten into her son’s cards and scattered them. I apologized for worrying her and told her I’d be happy to play with her son anytime (he’s older than I am by a couple years, so he has to be maybe 24 or 25) and she told me he was living in Chicago. So no go on that, but it was nice to chat with her.
I was glad there was a happy ending all around. I wish I could get to know my neighbors better!
Though, to be honest, the family in the house on the other side has a daughter my age, and she was in the front yard screaming at her mother that the dress she was wearing was unacceptable, so maybe I’ll hold off on that.
She doesn’t seem the type to play Magic anyhow.
