RTR Pre-release

Hey guys! I went to the release this weekend and had a great time!

I ended up picking Selesnya and went 3-1-1, winning 5 packs!

In my Sealed packs, I ended up opening a Rest in Peace, an Abrupt Decay, a Temple Garden, a Mana Bloom, and the Red Blue dragon that was the Jund guild promo. I ended up playing Junk and it was amazing that all but one of my rares was on color. My guild promo rare was a Loxodon Smiter.

I went really heavy on the populate cards, and I must have gotten my Grove of the Guardian out all but three games, and wow, let me tell you, that card was AMAZING! I had a ton of 8/8’s just running around and wrecking face.

After the tournament, I traded the dragon for a second Grove (pack grove! I love the art on both!), a foil Wayfaring Temple, and one of those Populate enchantments. Not bad, for a Dragon I didn’t intend to use! In my prize packs I didn’t get much, another Loxodon Smiter, a Chromatic Lantern and a Dreadbore. I traded the Dreadbore for a terminus and a second Mana bloom.

It was a highly successful sealed tournament! I helped run the second one, which also went well. I saw lots of Jaces but not a single gorgon, strangely enough.

How did your pre-releases go, everyone?

Today I accidentally found out my Neighbor’s Son plays Magic.

A while back, I cracked a few packs of Avacyn Restored and left them in the car. Well, dad left the car door open and a few of them escaped into the wild when the wind picked up and ended up all over the yard and the neighbor’s yard.

Thankfully we caught the rares pretty quick (Most of them, there’s still a rogue Reforge the Soul out there somewhere. I should make posters- “LOST- One red miracle. Don’t worry, it isn’t one of the good ones”). The only rare of note was one Restoration Angel that was saved quickly. The Uncommons and Commons got loose and ended up everywhere. Dad scooped most of them up and accused me of setting them loose, of course, but that’s another story. They were lurking about outside for a while, I’d guess overnight from the water damage on some of them (just curling from the dew).

My Neighbor is the cutest little Asian lady, and she saw the cards while walking down to her mailbox.  Today we got home as she was at her mailbox, and she came over with a handful of lands (one of each, she knew her stuff, but they were OLD, like pre-mirrodin old border old) and asked us if we knew about the ones that got loose. We told her they’d blown out of the car, and she said she that was a “Wonderful answer”, as she had thought someone had gotten into her son’s cards and scattered them. I apologized for worrying her and told her I’d be happy to play with her son anytime (he’s older than I am by a couple years, so he has to be maybe 24 or 25) and she told me he was living in Chicago. So no go on that, but it was nice to chat with her.

I was glad there was a happy ending all around. I wish I could get to know my neighbors better!

Though, to be honest, the family in the house on the other side has a daughter my age, and she was in the front yard screaming at her mother that the dress she was wearing was unacceptable, so maybe I’ll hold off on that.

She doesn’t seem the type to play Magic anyhow.
